Tour Details
We set off early in the morning to commence our day trip from Inverness to Applecross, following the southern section of the North Coast 500 route, passing through the stunning Black Isle before making a stop in Lochcarron village.
Take in the picturesque views of Loch Carron and grab a snack before we head towards Achintraid. This charming village offers stunning views of Loch Kishorn and a breathtaking mountain range on the opposite side.
Our journey continues as we ascend through a dramatic landscape via the Bealach na Ba (translated as Pass of the Cattle in Gaelic), also known as the Applecross Pass. This road stands as the third highest in Britain, reaching over 2000 feet; we will take a break at the summit for some photo opportunities, so make sure your camera is ready to capture the stunning vistas of Raasay and the Isle of Skye!
Descending towards Applecross, we arrive at this picturesque bay, teeming with natural wildlife, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts! Keep an eye out for otters, red kites, deer, and possibly pine martens! We will have ample time to explore Applecross Village.Leaving Applecross behind, we start our journey back to Inverness, enjoying a leisurely drive along the shores of Loch Torridon, passing through the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve. This reserve, one of the oldest in Britain, is home to a variety of wildlife, including the chance to spot a golden eagle! Continuing on, our Applecross excursion will include brief stops at Shieldaig and Kinlochewe villages on our way back to Inverness. Shieldaig, a quaint fishing village established in 1800, derives its name from the Viking term síld-vík, meaning “Herring Bay”.
We will pause here to appreciate the scenery and grab some refreshments before proceeding along Loch Torridon towards Kinlochewe. From there, we deviate from the NC500 route and head back towards Inverness, concluding our Applecross tour.
